Greubel Forsey Bids Farewell to Balancier Convexe S²

Black or white ceramic.

Greubel Forsey's entry-level sports watch, after five years of production, is now being discontinued. The brand will bid farewell to this timepiece with two final versions—the Balancier Convexe S² in ceramic. The first features an all-white ceramic case, while the second has a black ceramic case, with the bezel and case back crafted from 18K red gold.

Each watch is limited to 11 pieces and features the same movement, but with distinct decorative styles that complement the case. This is a manually wound, time-only movement, far from simple; it features the brand's signature sloping balance wheel and titanium bridges and plates.

The Convexe series (and its related sports models) was a bestseller for Greubel Forsey during the heyday of sports watches, but is now being gradually phased out. The Balancier Convexe S² is one of the few sporty models launched by Greubel Forsey since its management change, shifting towards a more classic high quality cheap watches style (such as last year's Nano Foudroyante). It may also be one of the last in the collection: Greubel Forsey notes that in addition to the model's discontinuation, "(This year) also marks the beginning of our gradual transition to an almost entirely new collection."

While many watch enthusiasts welcome Greubel Forsey's return to its roots, convex watches have their own charm. The Balancier Convexe S² is a prime example—its large case is ergonomically designed for comfortable wear; its sporty style also gives the watch a more versatile appeal than traditional Greubel Forsey watches.

Both new models are variations of existing designs. While not entirely innovative, they retain the charm of earlier versions, namely, a sophisticated movement housed within a sporty case. This duality is truly rare; most similar watches, such as those from Richard Mille or Hublot, cannot match the quality of the Greubel Forsey.

The Balancier Convexe S² features the iconic curved, slightly oval case of the Greubel Forsey sports luxury cheap Watches series. Last year's GMT Balancier Convexe also used the same case, only larger.

Like the Greubel Forsey sports case (no pun intended), the case's curvature makes it comfortable to wear, especially with the integrated rubber strap. Although its size may seem large at first glance, it is actually very comfortable to wear. The case diameter at the bezel is 44 mm, the sides are slightly narrower, and the thickness is approximately 13 mm (slightly thinner for the white ceramic version, slightly thicker for the black version).

Each version has a slightly different thickness due to subtle differences in construction; the black ceramic version features a red gold case back and bezel, while the white ceramic version uses a matching ceramic case back and bezel.

The case is convex, but the balance wheel is tilted at a 30-degree angle to the horizontal—this angle is most noticeable when viewed from the side. This tilted regulator design is a long-standing Greubel Forsey tradition, designed to better counteract the effects of gravity on timekeeping.

The rest of the movement also prioritizes timekeeping performance. It employs a series double mainspring barrel design, maintaining a constant torque during its three-day power reserve; the balance wheel is oversized, featuring chronograph screws and an external hairspring—most components are clearly visible from the front, showcasing the brand's signature architectural aesthetic.bremont watches kingsman price

Like other sports watches from the brand, this timepiece features titanium bridges and a baseplate, including the balance bridge and hand bridges. While titanium alloy is a more novel material than traditional brass, the finishing of its components maintains Greubel Forsey's consistently high standards, featuring a mirror-like smooth surface, straight grain, and striking chamfers.

Since both watches use the same movement, they appear essentially identical from the back, but their backs are finished differently to match the case.

The black ceramic model features a recessed brushed bridge with a black coating to match, while the bridge edges are finished in polished titanium for a contrast.

The white ceramic model, on the other hand, employs a more traditional surface treatment, with the brushed surface and edges retaining the natural color of titanium. This treatment undoubtedly enhances the decorative effect, as the granular surface of the bridges is more clearly visible. replica richard mille rm 52 04
